Last updated: [date] — see the review note at the bottom before publishing.

This Privacy Notice for Home & Homeland (“we,” “us,” or “our”) describes how and why we might access, collect, store, use, and/or share (“process”) your personal information when you visit home-homeland.com or otherwise engage with us — placing an order, contacting us, leaving a review, requesting an item, or signing up for a restock notification. Reading this notice will help you understand your privacy rights and choices. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our services.

Summary of key points

  • What personal information do we process? Only what you give us directly through the forms on this site — see “What information do we collect” below.
  • Do we process sensitive personal information? No — we do not collect race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, health information, or similar sensitive categories.
  • Do we collect information from third parties? No — everything in our records came directly from you.
  • How do we process your information? To provide and fulfill the services you asked for, communicate with you, and comply with the law — never for advertising or profiling.
  • Do we sell or share your information? No, never, with anyone, for any commercial purpose.
  • How do we keep it safe? Reasonable technical and organizational measures — though no method of transmission or storage online can be guaranteed 100% secure.
  • What are your rights? Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your information — see “Your privacy rights” below.

1. What information do we collect

In short: we collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us.

We collect personal information you give us when you:

  • Place an order: name, phone, email, delivery/shipping address and zip code (if applicable), items and quantities, gift message, and any notes.
  • Contact us: name, email, and your message.
  • Leave a review: your name, star rating, and review text — shown publicly only after we approve it.
  • Request an item: name, email, what you're looking for, quantity, and optionally a link to a reference photo.
  • Ask for a restock notification: your email and which product you asked about.

Sensitive information. We do not process sensitive information (race or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, health data, sexual orientation, and similar categories).

All personal information you provide must be true, complete, and accurate — please let us know of any changes.

2. How we process your information

In short: we process your information to provide our services, communicate with you, and comply with the law.

  • To fulfill and manage your order — confirm details, deliver/ship it, and handle any return or exchange.
  • To respond to you — a contact message, review submission, or item request.
  • To notify you — the one-time restock email you asked for.
  • For security and fraud prevention — e.g. spam/bot filtering on our forms.
  • To comply with the law — e.g. tax and bookkeeping records.

3. When and with whom we share your information

In short: we share information with the service providers below, and in the specific situations described here — never for anyone else's marketing.

We use a small number of outside services to run the site and fulfill orders:

  • Google Sheets — our internal order/message/review log.
  • Resend — sends order, contact, and notification emails.
  • Twilio (WhatsApp) — if enabled, sends order confirmations via WhatsApp.
  • Vercel — hosts the site; Vercel Analytics gives us aggregate traffic data, with no tracking cookies and no advertising profile built on visitors.

Business transfers. If this business is ever sold or its assets transferred, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We have not disclosed, sold, or shared personal information with third parties for a business or commercial purpose in the preceding twelve months, and we do not intend to.

4. How long we keep your information

In short: only as long as necessary for the purposes in this notice, unless the law requires longer.

We keep your information only as long as needed to fulfill orders, respond to messages, and for basic bookkeeping (or longer where the law requires it, e.g. tax records). When there's no ongoing need, we delete or anonymize it, or if that isn't possible (e.g. backup archives), we securely isolate it until deletion is possible.

5. How we keep your information safe

In short: we aim to protect your information through reasonable security measures.

We use reasonable technical and organizational security measures. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or storage technology can be guaranteed 100% secure — we cannot promise hackers or other unauthorized parties will never defeat those measures. Use of our services is at your own risk; access them only within a secure environment.

6. Do we collect information from minors?

In short: we do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18.

By using our services, you represent that you are at least 18, or the parent/guardian of a minor consenting to their use. If we learn we've collected data from someone under 18, we'll delete it promptly — contact us at getintouch@home-homeland.com if you believe this has happened.

7. Your privacy rights

In short: you may review, change, or request deletion of your information at any time, depending on where you live.

If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, you may have the right to:

  • Right to know whether we are processing your personal data
  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to correct inaccuracies in your personal data
  • Right to request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to obtain a copy of the personal data you previously shared with us
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights
  • Right to opt out of targeted advertising, sale of personal data, or certain profiling — though as noted above, we don't do any of these, so this right has little to exercise here in practice

Withdrawing consent: where we rely on your consent to process your information, you may withdraw it at any time by contacting us (below) — this won't affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.

How to exercise these rights: email us at getintouch@home-homeland.com. We'll verify your identity before acting on a request (using only the information you provide in the request itself), and respond within the time your state's law requires. If we decline a request, you may appeal by emailing us again, and if that's denied, you may file a complaint with your state attorney general.

California “Shine the Light” law: California residents may request, once a year and free of charge, information about any categories of personal information we've disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes — as stated above, we haven't disclosed any, and don't intend to.

8. Categories of personal information (US state law reference)

For residents of states with a categorical disclosure requirement (e.g. California), here's what we've actually collected in the past twelve months, using the standard state-law category list:

CategoryExamplesCollected
A. IdentifiersName, email, phone number, mailing addressYes
B. Customer records (CA Customer Records statute)Name, contact informationYes
C. Protected classificationsGender, age, race, national origin, etc.No
D. Commercial informationOrder/transaction historyYes
E. Biometric informationFingerprints, voiceprintsNo
F. Internet/network activityBrowsing history, device/browser info via analyticsAggregate only, no individual tracking
G. Geolocation dataPrecise device locationNo
H. Audio/visual informationPhotos, call recordingsNo
I. Professional/employment informationJob title, work historyNo
J. Education informationStudent recordsNo
K. InferencesProfiles built from the aboveNo
L. Sensitive personal informationSee section 1 aboveNo

Corrected from a generic template: identifiers and commercial/transaction information are genuinely collected here (that's the order form's whole purpose) — marking those “No” would have been inaccurate.

9. Controls for Do-Not-Track features

Most browsers include a Do-Not-Track (DNT) signal, but there's no finalized industry standard for recognizing or honoring it — so, like most sites, we don't currently respond to DNT signals. If a standard is adopted that we must follow, we'll update this notice.

10. Do we make updates to this notice?

Yes — as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws. We'll update the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes, post a notice or contact you directly.

11. How can you contact us about this notice?

Email getintouch@home-homeland.com. We're based in Glen Allen, VA 23059 — as a home-based business we don't publish a street address publicly, but we're happy to correspond by mail on request.

12. How can you review, update, or delete the data we collect from you?

You have the right to request access to the personal information we collect from you, details about how we've processed it, correction of inaccuracies, or deletion — subject to the limits noted above. Email us at the address in section 11 to make any of these requests.
